Aireys Inlet... at the start of the Great Ocean Road Split Point Lighthouse is its major landmark, rising up from the cliff tops to overlook Bass Strait and to send its light out when the sun sets over the Otway Ranges. Big long sandy beaches laced with large fossil encrusted cliffs and rock platforms. Crystal clear rock pools are common along this beautiful part of the Shipwreck Coast.

A long sand dune shelters the inlet from the strong southerly winds that lash the open coastline at various times of the year. Dirt tracks weave in and out of native vegetation up and down this hilly little hamlet. Family and holiday houses are nestled into these areas creating a coastal village feel.

Two small groups of shops ("the top shops" and "the bottom shops") service the little community, includig a Post office, grocery, fuel, chemist, bakery, real estate, a number of restaurants and takeaway eateries.

Aireys Inlet is surrounded by the "Angahook-Lorne State Park". Aireys Inlet offers, within minutes of the town centre, beautiful tranquil walks among towering gums, heathland vegetation, through the "Iron Bark Gorge" and along winding creeks. Walking tracks around Aireys Inlet.

Aireys Inlet is only 120 kilometres from Melbourne, approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes by car, allowing ample time for day trippers to have a break at the start of their "Great Ocean Road" adventure and to soak in the quiet atmosphere that Aireys offers, or to stay overnight at some of the various "Bed and Breakfast" or motel accommodation that is on offer.
